National Flag Day – De La Salle

National Flag Day

Each year the Thomas Meagher foundation celebrates the creation of the Irish flag by Waterford native Thomas Francis Meagher. This year the Irish tricolour is 175 years old! The DLS History department have put together a display between room 8 and 9 to highlight the importance of the tricolour and the DLS Library has a temporary reading section dedicated to Thomas Meagher and the Irish flag.

Also this year, every DLS student will receive an Irish Tricolour pin to stand as a reminder of what the Irish flag symbolises.

“The flag stands as a symbol to promote inclusion, respect and aims to highlight the meaning of peace, in particular among young people of all backgrounds, ethnicities cultures and genders”.
