Biology is taught primarily over the two years of fifth and sixth years covering a wide range of topics that further explore the wonderful range of living organisms and their physiological makeup buildign on the student’s knowledge from the Junior Cycle Science course.The course is complemented by a range of experiments.
In fourth year the students undertake a project exploring and examining the wonders of the great resource that is Killarney National Park, studying such aspects as the impact of introduced species, the occurrence of rare species and the history of Muckross Abbey. In May of Fourth Year they go on a hike through the park, seeing in reality the various aspects studied.
There is also a big emphasis in fourth year of gaining a good knowledge of local and national natural history. This is complemented by referring to weekly publications and discussing the content.
