We are delighted that Michael O’Riordain’s (first year) “Litter Less” Video Entry has been shortlisted for a prize in the Young Reporters for the Environment competition 2019! This will take place Thursday, May 16th, in Dublin. Best of luck Michael and well done!
On Thursday last, the Transition Year students who are in the process of receiving their ‘Gaisce President’s Award’ were treated to a very informative, useful and beneficial talk from a guest speaker from An Taisce, the organization that runs ‘Neat Streets’, an anti-litter and waste educational programme for Secondary School students nationwide, as part of the schools application for our first Green Flag.
On the day the speaker went on to explain the work carried out by the organization on a daily basis among much else. The students were particularly taken aback by the effect of their daily decisions on our planet. The key messages on the day were ‘You’re never too small to make a difference’ and ‘Act locally whilst thinking globally’.
Future projects planned by the students to apply what they’ve learned include litter picking sessions throughout the school and greater Macroom Community.
