Physical Education in De La Salle Macroom
Physical Education is offered to each junior cycle class for 2 x 40 minute periods per week.
At Junior Cycle a holistic approach is used in physical education with the aim of creating a fun, safe and enjoyable learning environment for all pupils. Teachers deliver a curriculum, under the new wellbeing programme, that gives each student the opportunity to be involved and succeed in physical education regardless of their abilities. This is done through a variety of active games whereby students’ develop key skills that can be applied, not only in sport but in everyday life such as teamwork and communication skills.
They also have the opportunity to participate in the following games:
Health Related Fitness
Aussie Rules Football
Transition year activities take place every Friday afternoon from 1.50 to 3.50.
During this time every week pupils take part in a number of sports related activities including:
Outdoor Pursuits ( this involves spending three days in an adventure centre)
Strength and conditioning classes
Mixed martial arts
