History

Junior Cycle History

  • How we find out about the past (1st Year)
  • Studies of change (2nd Year)
  • Understanding the modern world (3rd Year)

The History Department aims to:

  • Prepare students for Junior Cert History and to complete the required topics
  • Enhance students’ analytical skills
  • Contribute to the general education of the students and to help create a greater understanding of the world in which they live
  • To adhere to the guidelines and prescriptions of the Department of Education syllabus

The New Junior Cycle History programme commenced in September 2018. First Years explore their skills as historians as well as their own heritage with a Classroom Based Assessment “The Past in my Place.” This allows students to choose a local topic that they are interested in. First Year sees students explore Irish and European history – from Ancient Rome to the Ulster Plantation – which will allow them to develop key learning skills which they will continue to explore throughout Junior Cycle History.
