Last Sunday 16th October, Lasallian martyr Br Solomon Leclercq was canonised in a ceremony that took place outside St Peter’s Basilica, Rome. In 1792, Br Solomon was summarily executed at the height of the French Revolution for refusing to sign the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, i.e. that the French clergy and religious were subordinate to the state. The night before his execution, Br Solomon wrote to his sister: ‘We suffer greatly and happily the crosses and afflictions that God will send us.’ In March 2016, a final miracle attributed to the Br Solomon was approved by the Holy See and his canonisation approved.
