Transition Year - Road Safety Roadshow   26/01/2020

On Tuesday the 21st January the Transition Years went to the Road Safety Roadshow in Rochestown Park Hotel. The show was designed to raise awareness about car accidents among teenagers and the horrific consequences tied to these accidents. Especially noted was the importance for young men to take particular care while driving as in 2019 75% of those killed on Irish roads were male.

A series of professionals who encounter the horrors of road traffic collisions spoke candidly about the effects of these disasters and how, despite their professional role, detaching from what they see and experience is almost always impossible.

A transfixed cohort of students heard harrowing details from a Garda, a paramedic, a fireman and an ER Trauma Surgeon.

At the end a man who lost his daughter to a car crash 15 years ago bravely spoke. What he said was very moving and definitely hit home with all the teenagers in the room who listened in respectful silence. All the boys found this show very eye opening and very effective.
