U16 Hurling Match Report   26/01/2020

On a fresh winter’s morning on Monday January 19th, De La Salle’s u16 hurling team travelled to Ballygarvan to face the East Cork side St.Colman’s Community College. The De La Salle team were feeling up to the challenge prior to the game. Many of the players had experienced the bitterness of losing a final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh the year before and were hungry for success. De La Salle began the game strong and continued this momentum until the final whistle. Registering their first score in the 4th minute was aided by the skilful defensive play from young Jack Sweeney in corner back and Jack Devine at full back. Macroom would then go on to score the next three points of the game until the 18th minute when wing forward Brian Healy ran through the Fermoy defence and slotted the ball into the opposition’s goal. At half time the score fell at 1:04 to 0:00 in favour of De La Salle.

Substitutions at halftime gave some of the younger players a taste of school hurling in a game where De La Salle were comfortably in control.  Great attacking work from Daire McMahon, Brian Healy, Conor Kelleher and James Slattery resulted in well taken scores. Through no fault of the excellent defenders Luke Duggan, Charlie Burke and keeper Eoin Healy, the patient opposition finally got two well deserved points on the scoreboard. De La Salle drove on and scored a final goal by Brian Healy which ended the game on a score line of 2:08 to 0:02. De la Salle will be confident facing into the next round of the competition.
