Jim Quinn, RIP.   04/10/2019

The death has occurred of our dear friend and colleague Mr. Jim Quinn, RIP.

For the past 20 years Jim was a daily visitor to our school, sharing his athletic experience with our P.E. department and coaching our athletics students in track and field. His pleasant disposition, sense of humour, positivity and encouraging nature made him a very popular person in De La Salle, with staff and students alike. He took great pride in what he did and gave his time freely, be it after school or a weekend, wherever it would be of benefit.

As an avid golfer Jim arranged the school golfing team and drove the students to events all over County Cork. He also introduced many of the staff to the game, and gave them their first lesson! He also provided Transition Year students with golf lessons as part of their TY programme.

For Jim the glass was always half full, his encouragement of students was legendary, allowing them to believe they were capable of achieving almost anything, and they sometimes did!

He had a wealth of life experiences and his affiliation to the school afforded him the opportunity of sharing them with his colleagues in De La Salle. Any journey taken in the company of Jim was shortened in time and enriched in experience accordingly.

Jim’s passing has left a large void in our school community, which will be felt by all he came in contact with.

On behalf of our school community I wish to extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Phil and children, Eilish, Declan, Miriam, Maeve and his extended family and friends.

May he rest in peace.

John P. Murphy.
