Visit from Bobby O'Dwyer   06/09/2019

On Thursday, September 5th, we welcomed Mr. Bobby O’Dwyer and the Tom Markham cup to De La Salle. Bobby managed the recently victorious Cork Minor Football team to their All Ireland Success, their first since 2000. We were delighted to welcome local man Bobby, who’s two sons are past pupils of De La Salle. Bobby had many words of wisdom to share with the boys. He spoke of the key attributes of an intercountry player, not only skill but humility, attitude and the importance you hold for your team. He motivated the boys to work on their basic skills, kicking off left and right and the importance of work rate and practice. It is safe to say there were a few footballs and sliotars taken out that evening! He recognised a few local faces from the students and spoke of how he looked forward to seeing them on the intercountry scene in the future. The most important message Bobby got across was that success or failure will not define you. In years to come it will not matter who won a Minor All Ireland medal or who got what points in their Leaving Cert. The person you are will be what matters, a good brother, a good son etc. That is a message we really stand behind in De La Salle. We want to sincerely thank Bobby for his time spent with the boys and the message he brought.
